It sure sounds like an Ohio State football recruit is ready to jump ship

Based on these comments, he doesn't seem locked in with the Buckeyes.

The Ohio State football program continues to pursue quarterback recruits in the 2027 class. Brady Edmunds has been committed to the Buckeyes for two years now. He was expected to be the lone quarterback that the Ohio State Buckeyes took this year.

Yet, Ryan Day is still looking at other players. It looks like Ohio State is still looking around at other options at the quarterback spot. Of course, that could be because they expect Julian Sayin to leave after this season and head to the NFL Draft if he has another stellar year, so they need more depth.

Or it could mean that Day doesn't like how Edmunds has progressed, so they are looking around. Edmunds doesn't seem to know which scenario it is, either. Based on his recent comments, he sounds far from locked in with Ohio State moving forward.

Ohio State recruit Brady Edmunds might be looking to jump ship

Based on a conversation he had with Greg Biggins of Rivals, it sounds like he is open to de-committing from the Buckeyes.

“I love Ohio State and can definitely still see myself there. I do think it’s smart to protect myself, though, and stay out in front of this.”

That doesn't sound like comments from a recruit who is excited about his future at Ohio State. At this point, I would be more surprised if Edmunds actually stays in this class. He clearly wants to head to Columbus, but Day might not give him that option if someone else becomes available.

After this season, Tavien St. Clair is poised to be the starter. The former five-star recruit looked good in the Spring Game. He could then start for two years before he moves on to the NFL. So where does that leave Edmunds? Does he want to sit for two years before getting a shot at starting?

If Day thinks there is another good quarterback who better fits the style of offense Arthur Smith wants to run, he will go after that recruit. It still wouldn't be a bad idea to keep Edmunds, especially for depth purposes. Injuries are a real possibility, and they have to be prepared for that.

This is a situation worth monitoring over the next month or so. That's when Ohio State is going to be most active when it comes to quarterback recruiting. There should be a resolution to this situation sooner rather than later.
