Behind the scenes draft footage reveals even Carnell Tate was surprised he snuck into the top 5

Not a lot of people had Carnell Tate being the first Ohio State player taken in the 2026 NFL Draft.

The 2026 NFL Draft is in the books, and Ohio State had another big year with players heading to the next level. The first round was big for the Buckeyes, with four players selected in the first 11 picks of the draft.

With so many mock drafts out there, it seemed like a consensus that linebacker Arvell Reese was going to be the first Buckeyes selected, followed by Sonny Styles, Caleb Downs, and then Carnell Tate. Well, things got flipped a little upside down with those predictions, as Reese wasn't the first Buckeye taken, but instead Tate was.

Tate was selected by the Tennessee Titans with the fourth overall pick to the surprise of many, but apparently also to the surprise of the Ohio State receiver. After being selected, Styles in the video below commented on what Tate thought about going so high to Tennessee.

"Oh shoot," Styles said. "He [Tate] wasn't even thinking about the Titans bro."

Sonny Styles could not be happier for Carnell Tate going to the Titans

After Styles hinted that even Tate didn't think he would be going so high in the NFL Draft, the Ohio State linebacker could not be happier about his teammate going higher than expected. Instead of wondering why he went so high, Styles was thinking about what he was going to say in congratulations to Tate.

Tate going so high was not because of a lack of talent, but there were thoughts that Tennessee was going to go with Notre Dame running back Jeremiah Love. However, Love was taken by the Arizona Cardinals with the third overall pick.

Styles even said it made sense that Tennessee went with Tate because Cam Ward is going into his second season with the Titans and needs help offensively. Styles believes Tate will bring that needed help immediately, and he is great for Tennessee.
