Spring ball is in full swing for Ohio State and Ryan Day, which means recruiting is about to reach another level too for the Buckeyes. The class is off to a strong start, with it including 5-star pass-rusher David Jacobs, one of the top players in the country.
Ohio State football team remains squarely in the mix for generational CB
Jacobs is Columbus-bound, for now. That's because while he has already given Day and his coaching staff the news they were hoping for, other teams are still pushing hard. This includes Texas, with Jacobs taking a recent visit to Austin. How'd things go for him at UT? Pretty dang well, which is not good for OSU:

“It's just a great place to be. I really liked it up there. It was awesome. They got F1 up there too, they do F1 in Austin. I love F1.”

5-star Ohio State commit David Jacobs appears to be giving Texas a serious look
The fact that Texas is still 'in the hunt' for Jacobs makes it feel like his recruitment process is far from over. Unfortunately with the way recruitment works these days, the excitement of landing a commit's verbal isn't what it used to be.
Now, it has become quite common for players to take other visits and listen to the pitches from other programs despite already announcing that they're '100 percent committed' to a school. With Jacobs, he continues to make it clear he loves Ohio State, but at the same time, he's still seeing what else is out there.
The 6-5, 235-pounder has picked up 38 offers this cycle, with Ohio State, Texas, Alabama, Auburn and many others putting a tender on the table. According to the 247Sports Composite, Jacobs is ranked five stars, the No. 1 EDGE in the country and No. 4 player overall for the '27 group.
He originally pledged to Ohio State on Dec. 29, and it truly was a monster get at the time. Now, though, it looks like Day and his staff are going to have to go all-in to keep him in the fold. Jacobs is the jewel of the current commits list and losing him would be a monster blow, especially if it comes at the hands of Sark and Texas.
