Tight End: Jeff Heuerman

I wish that Ohio State still used the tight end as a weapon in the passing game. That was part of what made the offense a little more unpredictable under Meyer. I guess when you have the wide receivers that Ryan Day has had, you don’t need a great tight end.

Nonetheless, Jeff Heuerman gets the nod here. He had 7 touchdowns and 792 yards during his Ohio State career. He was also a good blocker and was really useful down in the red zone. I liked Heuerman’s game and wish that they would have used him even more.

Ohio State isn’t known for having a lot of tight ends that gain a lot of yards receiving or score a bunch of touchdowns. It’s not Iowa. Most of the tight ends that are recruited are used to help in the running game first before being utilized as a pass-catcher.

Looking at Meyer’s past rosters, there weren’t any choices that stood out to me that much. Luke Farrell got some consideration. In the end, I think Heuerman’s upside as a tight end with great hands ended up being the difference for him making the team.

Next, we start looking at the wide receivers. We start with one that was under-utilized in college but showed what a big stud he was in short spurts.
