Ohio State Football: 3 players who improved their stock the most during Spring
By Ryan Stano
2. Jack Sawyer
After being the Spring Game hero in 2021 as a freshman, big things were expected out of Jack Sawyer. He played very well that year while still not seeing full playing time at defensive end. Last season, he was moved to the “Jack” position and that cut down his production.
Sawyer won’t be playing that position anymore. Jim Knowles has confirmed that he will move back to defensive end. The reviews since he’s done that during practice have been off the charts. We already know how good J.T. Tuimoloau is as a defensive end. Now Sawyer can show us too.
Last season, Sawyer had 4.5 sacks and 24 tackles in that “Jack” position. I could see him getting 8 or more sacks next season now that he’s back as a DE. Teams will be queued in on JTT on the other side of the field. That should leave Sawyer with more one-on-one opportunities to get to the quarterback.
I do expect Sawyer’s numbers to go up across the board. He has done a good job improving in the offseason both his body and his technique. That will continue this Summer in what should be a monster year for him. If he has a really good season, he could leave for the NFL.
The last person on this list is someone that didn’t quite make the list of Spring Game winners but was really close to doing so.
