Ohio State Football: 3 players who improved their stock the most during Spring
By Ryan Stano
With the Spring Game happening last weekend, Spring practice is officially over for the Ohio State football program. They won’t start practice back up until the Fall about a month before they start playing games. Obviously, the work won’t stop for these players though.
All of these guys will keep trying to get better in the Summer and will be working on their bodies and techniques. While we saw some guys not perform as well as we’d hoped in the Spring Game, plenty of guys got rave reviews after the game and after practices as well.
There are three guys that I think improved their stock more than the others during the accumulation of the 15 practices the Buckeyes were allowed. This list is not just specific to the Spring Game this past weekend, but it includes the other 14 practices and reports we’ve gotten from those as well.
All of these guys have played well enough to increase their stock and give them a chance at more playing time once the Fall rolls around. The first guy on this list is someone who might not get playing time right away but has been turning heads in practice constantly.
1. Carnell Tate
Carnell Tate may just be a freshman, but he has been turning heads all over the place. He caught a touchdown during the Spring Game and gave us a flash of what the coaches have been seeing in practice. He was one of the quickest freshmen ever to get his black stripe removed.
Tate has the full package as a receiver; the route-running, the hands, the speed, and the ability to get open are all fantastic. This is someone who looks like he could be the next great Buckeye receiver to make his way through Columbus before dominating the NFL.
Playing time is going to be tough to come by for him though. He has a stable of receivers ahead of him that are proven commodities and are very talented as well. We might not see his full talent on display until next year when those guys all leave, but it will be well worth the wait.
The next guy on this list is a guy on defense that has been moved back into a position he is more comfortable at.
