Well, the joy was short-lived. The Ohio State football team was celebrating landing the number two overall recruit in the 2024 class just late last week. Jeremiah Smith, the number one receiver in the 2024 class and the number two overall recruit, had chosen the Buckeyes.

At the time, that gave the Buckeyes the top two overall recruits in the 2024 class. That was because quarterback Dylan Raiola had committed to the Buckeyes long ago and he is the number one overall recruit in that class. Ohio State no longer has him on the hook.

It was confirmed today by multiple sources that Raiola has de-committed from the Ohio State football program. That leaves the Buckeyes in a bad spot in terms of quarterbacks for the future. They now need to find another quarterback for that class.

This is extremely troubling for Ryan Day. NIL has been the talk of the town recently. This has all the makings of that. It seems that recruits now just want the most money they can get and nothing else matters. I have a feeling that’s exactly what happened here.

There’s no word on who Raiola may be leaving the Buckeyes for yet, but it doesn’t really matter. This is an absolute disaster for Ohio State. This is the second time that the Buckeyes have lost the number one overall recruit under Ryan Day. Quinn Ewers transferred after just a year with the program as well.

Ohio State needs to fix this. It’s only going to get worse if they don’t. If they keep losing recruits, that is not going to help Ryan Day’s cause in terms of keeping his job for the long haul. Losing to Michigan two years in a row and losing recruits is not a good recipe for a coach to stay long at Ohio State.
