The Ohio State football team is busy preparing for the Peach Bowl. It’s a chance for them to right the ship of a season that was suddenly thrust into chaos following the final game of the year. While doing this, they are trying to go out and handle some business on the recruiting trail.

Recruiting has changed a lot in the last couple of years. With the introduction of NIL, the Buckeyes now have to promise recruits that they will get a certain amount of money in order for them to want to come to Columbus. Most recruits no longer care about tradition and being prepared for the NFL; they only care about how much money they’ll make on campus.

That’s part of the reason why Gene Smith has been lobbying for fans to help with NIL. Ohio State clearly has a NIL problem and that’s part of the reason why they’ve been getting beaten for some top recruits in the 2023 cycle. The question is when the program will address the issues openly.

Today could be when the Ohio State football program addresses the NIL problems.

Ryan Day will have a press conference today around 11 am for the Peach Bowl. I can guarantee that someone will ask him about the world of NIL and how Ohio State has seemingly fallen behind in that regard. I’m very interested to see how he addressed those questions.

Knowing him, he will deflect it and say he and his staff are most focused on preparing for the game on New Year’s Eve against Georgia. Even if he does address it, he’s certainly not going to give away any secrets in terms of what the program is doing or what they might change.

All fans want to know is how they are going to fix this issue. Ohio State should not be a football program that struggles in this arena. They should be setting the pace if anything.
