Ohio State Football: The Shoe will be rocking Saturday night
By Riley Thomas
What an environment it should be in The Shoe Saturday night against Penn State, giving Ohio State football a major home-field advantage.
As if Ohio Stadium doesn’t get loud enough for big games, it should be exceptional this weekend. A night game in The Shoe is usually ruckus, even more so recently with night games becoming a rarity thanks to Fox’s Big Noon. Some new alternate uniforms for the Buckeyes will add some hype to the game as well.
Plus, Ohio State is asking fans to scarlet out The Shoe, which could create a cool scene. This is the first time the Bucks have tried anything like this since the blackouts that did not work out. Ramping up the intensity, Ohio State football’s numerous social media accounts put out an extremely well-done hype video Thursday evening.
Ryan Day also did his piece asking the Buckeye faithful to show up in a big way for the Penn State game,
"We’re asking, I’m asking for Buckeye Nation to be really, really loud when Penn State has the football. And I mean really loud, so that they struggle to commuicate because when they do that’s a huge advantage for our defense."
Day’s expectations should be met as The Shoe should and will be rocking Saturday night. As Day said, that advantage is very real, making the fans’ role very important.
If Penn State is forced to move to a silent count on offense, the pass rush from the Scarlet and Gray could be very good. This gives defensive ends the opportunity to attempt to time PSU’s silent count, which is usually figured out by the second half, giving them some really good jumps off the snap.
Furthermore, you have the obvious factor of offenses being more prone to penalties like false starts and delay of games in these situations. Ohio State fans need to be loud and crazy Saturday night.
What more can you ask for in a college football environment? A stadium expected to be packed with over 102,000 people in attendance, new all-scarlet alternate uniforms, squaring off against an in-conference foe in Penn State, and an Ohio State football team that has been lights out recently.
That sounds like an exhilarating game to be at. Potential rainy weather is the only setback that could dim down the setting, hopefully, that dodges Columbus.
With the country watching Ohio State versus Penn State on primetime television Saturday night, the Shoe will prove why it has been one of the long-standing, premier environments in all of college football.
