Ohio State has been preparing for Michigan every day for 20 years

One of the most confusing pieces of data backing that Michigan is poised for an upset trend this year, is the fact that the Wolverines are preparing for Ohio State each day. At Big Ten media days, it became clear that there is a renewed focus on the rivalry in Ann Arbor.

This is great as I believe closer games will be good for the rivalry on a national scale. I am happy that Michigan is finally paying the rivalry the respect it deserves by preparing for Ohio State every day. But, in no way should this move the needle on Michigan beating the Buckeyes.

Ohio State has been playing to beat Michigan every season for the last 20+ years. Success started when Jim Tressel showed how much stock he put into this game by guaranteeing victory. And throughout his tenure, he did not disappoint. The gap and margin of victory have just continued to grow from Urban Meyer to Ryan Day.

I think it is great Michigan is trying to beat Ohio State again. But don’t expect that one sign in the weight room to close the talent gap between these two teams in one season. Coaching is the great equalizer, but the Buckeyes have one better than TTUN.
