Ohio State football: The latest COVID news for the National Championship
By Ryan Stano
The Ohio State football team does have some COVID issues, but they are not nearly as bad as the rumors earlier in the week had indicated.
The Ohio State football team has had to deal with COVID issues affecting their games multiple times this season. Their games against Maryland, Illinois, and TTUN were all canceled due to COVID issues, mostly in other programs. But COVID has had a big impact on the Buckeyes.
There were rumors of COVID ravaging an entire position group within the team before this National Championship Game. Those rumors were inaccurate. As far as my sources tell me, the Buckeyes will only be without two starting-caliber players for Monday night.
While I cannot be specific as to who the players are, they are up front. Still, two players being out is far from the crisis that some people thought it would be. It’s certainly not enough to reschedule the game. This game will go on as planned Monday night, contingent on Friday’s test results.
With just two players out for this game, Ohio State still has plenty of firepower for Alabama. The Buckeyes have plenty of talent to make up for the players that will be out of the game. They also have enough talent to win this game, with or without those players.
Ohio State has a shot to win their first National Championship since 2014 when they also beat Bama in the CFP. There doesn’t seem to be any COVID issues within Alabama’s program. In fact, they are getting a weapon back, so that will make life harder for the Buckeyes.
The best part about this news is that the game should still be played on Monday night. There’s a good chance Buckeye fans will be celebrating a victory late that night.
