Ohio State Football: Buckeyes better than expected under Ryan Day
Defensively, the Silver Bullets can be bragged about all day long. They have played fast, downhill, smart and aggressive to start the year in their new-look, simplified system.
Mostly every Ohio State defender has stood out through the first two games. However, two have risen above their teammates in my opinion.
Chase Young is the first and he has looked like a freak of nature during the first two games in efforts to earn the honor of being the No. 1 overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft.

Young has recorded three sacks, a pass deflection and a blocked field goal already. He would have recorded an interception with a likely touchdown following had he been able to reel in the tipped ball that went off his hands in Saturday’s matchup.
The second is CB Jeffrey Okudah who has locked down his side of the field up until this point. Also a projected high draft prospect, Okudah has seven solo tackles, 1 forced fumble and a pass break up (PBU).
The play on the field has certainly exceeded the expectations of many heading into week 3 which will be the first road game for the Buckeyes.
Ryan Day’s coaching style has already exuded his intelligence and masterful game planning as well as his schematic abilities. So the nation has a lot to look forward to watching a deep, immensely talented team that is just beginning to take off the training wheels.
Ohio State was humming on in every area on Saturday, but as this team continues to grow and develop together they will prove why the Buckeyes are a legitimate threat to Alabama and Clemson as well as a true contender for the Big Ten and College Football Playoff.
