Ohio State Football: Incoming group of Buckeyes like 2011, only better
3. Playing with chips on their shoulders:
The final reason the 2019 recruiting class could be better than the one in 2011 is that the players will have chips on their shoulders. They are the lowest ranked Ohio State recruiting class in the last nine years.
The class is ranked No. 13 nationally at the moment and probably won’t move up much higher after National Signing Day. Now compare that with the previous classes since 2011 per the 247Sports Composite.

The average player rankings are among the best of any team in the country so there is plenty of talent in the class. It’s just that it is a small one which explains the overall ranking.
Still, don’t you think the players in this year’s class will think they have something to prove being ranked so low?
In conclusion, the players in the 2019 Ohio State recruiting class have a great chance to realize the success those in the 2011 class achieved during the 2014 championship run. However, unlike that class the incoming freshman this year don’t expect to wait until their fourth season to win a national title. And I’m sure Justin Fields transferred in with the intention to win one soon as well.
With Ryan Day at the helm, a balanced lineup of freshmen and a premiere quarterback in Justin Fields, the 2019 Buckeyes could make it back to the College Football Playoff for the first time since 2016. And possibly more trips to the CFP in the near future.
