2. Special QB talent:

Just like in 2011, the Buckeyes have a difference maker at quarterback joining the team as former five-star recruit Justin Fields has transferred in from Georgia.  Braxton Miller was an extremely talented athletic QB and Justin Fields is as well.

Miller’s success quarterbacking the Buckeyes can’t be overstated. Even though the 2011 season was a disappointing one for Ohio State, Miller played well as a true freshman and displayed the skills that showed everybody he was as good as advertised.

He then led the team to victories in Urban Meyer’s first 24 games as the Ohio State head coach. Even though Miller’s last two games at QB ended in losses to Michigan State in the Big Ten Championship Game and to Clemson in the Orange Bowl,  it doesn’t diminish his importance to the football program.

If not for his injury prior to the 2014 season Miller would have been the quarterback leading the 2014 Ohio State football team that won the National Championship.

Fields will probably have the chance to lead the Buckeyes as a sophomore in Ryan Day’s first year as head coach just like Miller did for coach Meyer in 2012. Most expect Fields to make a huge impact immediately if he receives a transfer waiver from the NCAA.

Fields was ranked the No. 1 dual threat quarterback in the 247Sports Composite in the 2018 recruiting class and appears to be an ideal fit for Ryan Day’s offense.

Now a look at what may motivate this year’s incoming players.
