So far only 15 players have signed on the dotted line to join this year’s Ohio State recruiting class. Not to worry though, it will be another strong one.

By the end of the first early signing day, 13 of the 16 players who were previously committed to the Ohio State recruiting class signed on the dotted line. Two other players chose to play for the Buckeyes and one was coach Ryan Day’s No. 1 target, and one of the most coveted recruits in the country.

6 ft. 5, 243 pound Zach Harrison is the No. 1 strong-side defensive end in the country and the No. 4 overall recruit in the country in the 247Sports Composite. He waited until yesterday to announce his decision to play for the Buckeyes.

You can bet coach Day breathed a sigh of the relief when he heard the news. Harrison is a Columbus area native who was considering playing for that team up north.

Check out the video and you will see why everybody wanted Harrison.

Another nice surprise was Jaden McKenzie joining the class. He is a 6 ft. 3, 280 pound defensive tackle from Wake Forest, North Carolina. Before he signed there was no interior defensive lineman in the class. I’m sure defensive line coach Larry Johnson is glad to have both Harrison and McKenzie in the fold.

Here is a look at the 2019 recruiting class so far with their position rankings according to the 247Sports Composite.

More from Ohio State Football Recruiting

  • Zach Harrison (Lewis Center, OH):  SDE (1)
  • Garrett Wilson (Austin, TX):  WR (2)
  • Harry Miller (Buford, GA):  OC (2)
  • Cade Stover (Mansfield, OH):  OLB (5)
  • Ronnie Hickman (Wayne, NJ):  S (9)
  • Jameson Williams (St. Louis, MO):  WR (24)
  • Steele Chambers (Roswell, GA):  ATH (10)
  • Ryan Jacoby (Mentor, OH):  OT (26)
  • Tommy Eichenberg (Cleveland, OH):  ILB 20
  • Noah Potter (Mentor, OH):  SDE (24)
  • Marcus Crowley (Jacksonville, FL):  RB (26)
  • Bryson Shaw (Potomac, MD):  S (47)
  • Craig Young (Fort Wayne, IN):  ATH (33)
  • Cormantae Hamilton (Memphis, TN):  TE (29)
  • Jaden McKenzie (Wake Forest, NC):  DT (58)

The Ohio State recruiting class is only ranked No. 12 at this point but that’s because the other 11 teams have more commits. The Buckeyes’ player average is the 3rd best behind Alabama and Georgia.

There are probably only another four or five scholarships available for Ryan Day to hand out this year so Ohio State probably won’t be near the top of the rankings after National Signing Day in February.

Next. Big wins, losses on 2019 Early Signing Day. dark

However, if coach Day can keep four star offensive lineman Doug Nester in the fold, and pick up players in positions of need, this promises to be another outstanding Ohio State recruiting class.
