While the 2019 Ohio State recruiting class is filling up with outstanding recruits, Urban Meyer is already off to a terrific start with his 2020 class.

At this point most college football coaches are simply striving to land a top-flight class in the current recruiting cycle. Urban Meyer has his 2019 Ohio State recruiting class going strong and the one in 2020 is off and rolling as well.

With the recent addition of four star inside linebacker Kane Patterson, the 2019 class has moved up to the No. 6 ranking in the 247Sports Composite. The 2020 class is currently ranked 2nd. Talk about multi-tasking.

Patterson was an important get for coach Meyer and not just to push the rankings. The Buckeye head coach wanted a linebacker to fill the middle.

And from reading articles written by those who are far more knowledgable about Ohio State recruiting than I am, Patterson apparently was the guy Urban wanted to fill the position. Check out the video and you will see why.

Here are the commitments so far in this year’s class:

  • WR Garrett Wilson
  • OC Harry Miller
  • OG Doug Nester
  • ATH Ronnie Hickman
  • OLB Cade Stover
  • RB Sampson James
  • S Jordan Battle
  • ILB Kane Patterson
  • ATH Steele Chambers
  • PRO Dwan Mathis
  • OT Ryan Jacoby
  • SDE Noah Potter
  • ATH Craig Young
  • S Bryson Shaw

The Buckeyes are ranked slightly behind No. 5 Michigan at the moment but you can expect that to change soon. Jim Harbaugh has five more recruits in his class (19 to Urban Meyer’s 14} and a much lower player average. In fact, Ohio State’s 92.66 average is second to Alabama among schools ranked in the top 10.

Now a look at how the 2020 Ohio State recruiting class is shaping up. Here are the “Fab Five” who have committed to play for the Buckeyes.

  • OT Paris Johnson
  • PRO Jack Miller
  • OG Luke Wypler
  • OT Jake Wray
  • S Lejond Cavazos

Johnson is a five-star recruit and the other players have four star ratings. The class player average is an unbelievable 95.88.

The 2019 class is well on the way to becoming yet another outstanding recruiting class for Urban Meyer and the ‘20 class is off to a great start. I guess that shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone.

Next: That team up north still the biggest rival?

Coach Meyer’s teams are always in the hunt for a national title and many of his players move on to the NFL. What recruit wouldn’t want to play for a coach with that kind of track record.
