Coach Meyer has loaded up his Ohio State recruiting class with terrific backs and  may be after one more.

It looked as though Urban Meyer was through looking for running backs during this recruiting cycle with outstanding ones already signed and sealed. Now it appears there could be another added to his 2018 Ohio State class.

It has been widely reported Tavion Thomas is on an official visit this weekend after decommitting from Oklahoma. But why would coach Meyer want to add another RB with few scholarships left to offer in this year’s recruiting class?

At this point most of the positions of need have been filled with the exception of adding another offensive tackle. Now Urban is simply looking for the best available athletes, and like recent commit wide receiver Chris Olave, Thomas certainly fits the bill.

He is a 6-2, 225 pound back who possesses a unique blend of power and speed. He certainly won’t require a ton of strength and conditioning to handle the pounding he will receive from college defensive linemen and linebackers.

Thomas is ranked as the 18th best running back in the 2018 class. Don’t let his three star status worry you too much though. His stats, along with his natural ability, should warrant a higher recruiting status.

Last season Thomas only played in seven games but rushed for 1,007 yards. As a junior he rushed for 1,606 yards scored 17 times and averaged 11.7 yards per carry.

He may be another big underrated Ohio back like the one Michigan State head coach Mark Dantonio recruited from Groveport in 2010. He was 6-1, 220 pounds and ranked No. 124 at the position. Le’Veon Bell turned out to be pretty good didn’t he?

I’m not saying Thomas will match Bell’s accomplishments, but with his size, speed and instincts who knows?

There are other recruits on campus this weekend along with Thomas. With National Signing Day nearly upon us, might we hear a BOOM later today?
