Tuesday was a big day for Urban Meyer as his 2018 Ohio State recruiting class got even better with two highly ranked players committing.

It was quite a haul for Urban Meyer with Tommy Togiai and Kamryn Babb committing to the 2018 Ohio State recruiting class Tuesday. Togiai made it three outstanding defensive tackles in the class for coach Larry Johnson to work with, and Babb was the wide receiver Urban wanted all along.

Togiai is 6-3, 290 pounds and ranked the No. 9 defensive tackle in the country and the No. 126 player overall according to the 247Sports Composite. Babb is 6-1, 189 pounds and ranked the No. 12 wide receiver and No. 65 at any position.

With Togiai, Taron Vincent and Antwaun Jackson in the fold, it is easily the best group of tackles Urban Meyer has brought into one of his Ohio State recruiting classes. Larry Johnson has had success turning defensive ends into tackles, with help from strength and conditioning coach Mickey Marotti, but these three have the size to play immediately.

That will be important as tackles Tracy Sprinkle and Michael Hill will be gone, and possibly Dre’Mont Jones as well.

As far as Babb is concerned, Urban Meyer had his eyes on the young guy from St. Louis early in the recruiting cycle. And you know when the head coach gets laser focused on a player he often can convince him to play for Ohio State.

Having the primary receiver he wanted in the class is a big get at this time. While Urban likes to bring in at least two wide receivers each recruiting cycle, this year is playing out such that he may not be able to.

It’s hard to say how many more scholarships are available at the moment and he has to bring in at least two defensive ends to the class. And there are several four and five-star players at other positions who still have Ohio State in the short list of schools they are considering. Urban will almost certainly keep a scholarship or two available in case they choose to play for the Buckeyes.

Togiai and Babb were definitely important additions to the 2018 Ohio State recruiting class. And don’t you think coaches Larry Johnson and Zach Smith are pretty happy at the moment?
