Urban Meyer’s 2018 Ohio State recruiting class is back at the top of the rankings.

With the commitment today of tight end Jeremy Ruckert, the 2018 Ohio State recruiting class regained the No. 1 spot in the 247Sports Composite rankings. It also kept the Buckeyes on their record-setting pace in the overall player average which now stands at 95.43.

The Miami Hurricanes slipped to No. 2 in the rankings. The schools rounding out the top five are Penn State, Tennessee and LSU.

Ruckert became the 11th player in the class to be ranked among the top 100 recruits in the nation. 13 are ranked in the top 300 and Andrew Chatfield is No. 301.

Running back Master Teague is the only player listed as a three star recruit but he shouldn’t be. Has any recruiting expert actually watched him run with the football?

They all should check out Teague’s 40 time, and then watch his highlights on YouTube. Sorry, I just can’t believe there are 375 better football players in the 2018 recruiting class.

The ACC leads the way with three teams ranked in the top 10. In addition to Miami, Clemson is ranked No. 8 with Florida State one spot behind the Tigers. Two Big 12 teams Texas (6) and Oklahoma (10) are ranked in the top 10 but Oregon (7) is the only representative from the Pac 12.

While several schools have very good recruiting classes, it would appear that none of them will approach the overall average the Ohio State recruiting class. There are a number of highly ranked recruits who are strong Ohio State leans, and others on Urban Meyer’s wish list who are considering playing for the Buckeyes.

The ridiculous average the Buckeyes have at the moment may only go up, but can Urban’s class finally unseat Alabama and finish No. 1? The 2017 class finished just under 12 points behind the Crimson Tide with 21 recruits. It has been speculated coach Meyer may be able to take 22 players in this recruiting cycle so it could happen.

I know, it’s a long way until National Signing Day and anything can happen between now and then. But remember, not only is Urban Meyer excellent at bringing in top talent to his recruiting classes, most of them stay committed until the ink is dry on NSD. And there is more top talent on the way.
