Ohio State Recruiting: Urban Meyer’s 2018 Offensive Backfield Envy of All?
Jaelen Gill is 6-1, 182 pounds and ranked the 2nd best all-purpose back and the No. 33 player in the country.
I couldn’t figure out why Urban Meyer was so intrigued by this local high school player from Westerville South when he was just a freshman. I kept my eyes on Gill and soon found out why.
He had an outstanding sophomore season culminating in a six touchdown game against his team’s rival Westerville Central, in the final game of the season. Per Eleven Warriors, Gill rushed for 281 yards and 5 touchdowns, and had a 38 yard TD reception that night.
Coaches from all over the country were now recruiting Gill.

Two games into his junior year he suffered a leg injury that ended his season. Sometimes when a player is injured you wonder how they will bounce back. Evidently it hasn’t been a problem for Gill.
He was invited to the prestigious Nike camp ‘The Opening’ recently. While there, Gill impressed everyone as usual.
Barton Simmons of 247Sports reported that Gill had 23 receptions for 2 touchdowns and ran for another score, and put him on his dream team of players at The Opening. He also said he was very impressed with how Gill ran after the catch. I guess he is healthy now.
Gill may be the ideal guy to play the H-back position in Urban Meyer’s offense. He may be the type of back who can make an impact as a true freshman like Curtis Samuel did in 2014.

As you can see, Urban Meyer has four outstanding backfield recruits in his 2018 class. Nearly any coach would love to have Emory Jones, Brian Snead, Master Teague or Jaelen Gill. Don’t you think coaches everywhere are envious he has all four?
