Ohio State Football: Why I Can’t Wait Until the 2018 Season
By Billy George
Looking forward to Ohio State football in 2018.
For die-hard Ohio State Buckeye football fans, the offseason waiting process is absolutely nerve-racking. Going nine months without seeing seasoned athletes dash up and down Ohio Stadium in scarlet and gray uniforms is simply heartbreaking. Good Lord, what did we ever do before the internet and YouTube?
As exciting as it is to think ahead to the 2017 season, however, I’m more excited to see what’s in store for the 2018 season. Why? We don’t know what to expect!
Here’s what we know about the 2017 season. We have a quarterback that has established himself, a returning running back, a stellar defensive line and we know the defense as a whole will be good. Sure, there are a few position battles, and Mike Weber, J. Barrett and the defense are highlight reel material.
But other than that, we DO know what to expect. We’ve seen Barrett for three years now. Weber was spectacular last year. It’ll be fun to see the defensive line dominate games. Perhaps what’s more fun, however, is not knowing exactly what will be more fun, and just discovering the fun as it happens before us.

Remember when we were kids and we would play outside just for the mere adventure of not knowing what we’d get into? That’s something that’s lost in today’s world as adults. We know what we’re going to do the next day, we have the same schedule, and added stress due to the many responsibilities we have. One escape from that is sports.
But even our favorite team of our favorite sport can become repetitive. That’s why college football is so great, because we know we won’t see the same student athletes forever. Just as sports serves as an enhancement to our stressful lives, the element of the unknown serves as an enhancement to sports!
Who’s going to be the starting quarterback when J.T. Barrett’s gone? Will it be Dwayne Haskins or Joe Burrow who will have been in the system for some time, or will it be a youngster like Tate Martell or Emory Jones? How good would the highly touted incoming defensive backs get by then?

These are the types of questions that keep us intrigued, and they’re definitely conversation starters. For these reasons, I CANNOT WAIT until the 2018 season.
