When he left the Ohio State football program, Justin Fields was one of the most beloved Buckeyes in recent memory. He had led the Buckeyes for two seasons and got them to the College Football Playoff in both years. He led them to a National Championship Game as well.
As good as he was on the field, he showed how much of a leader he is off the field by helping get the Big Ten to play football during the 2020 season. That's the season that saw them play Alabama for a title. After that game, he declared for the NFL Draft and was a first-round pick by the Bears.
His NFL career hasn't gone as planned. Despite showing that he is a dynamic runner, his passing skills have not developed. He was replaced as a starter in Chicago once the Bears drafted Caleb Williams. Fields was in Pittsburgh last season and started the first six games before getting replaced by Russell Wilson.
Will Justin Fields get another starting job in the NFL in 2025?
Fields is now a free agent. He's still just 25 years old. His arm is really strong, and his legs make him tough to game-plan against. His best passing season saw him throw for 2,562 yards, 16 touchdowns, and nine interceptions. It's disappointing that he's never thrown for over 3,000 yards.
Yet, his legs are such a weapon that it's hard not to get enamored with him. Fields had 1,143 yards rushing and eight touchdowns in 2022. Putting all of this together, will he be able to find a starting job in 2025? Or will he have to settle for a backup position as he did in 2024?
The Steelers could bring him back and put him as the starter. They are moving on from Wilson. There are plenty of other teams that need quarterbacks, too. The Jets, Giants, and Browns all need starters and might not draft quarterbacks early in the NFL Draft.
Fields won't be an All-Pro quarterback. That ship has sailed. But he still has a shot to be a top-15 QB if he can refine his passing.
