Ohio State has had two weeks to prepare for this upcoming game against USC. That means they have had two weeks to get a young quarterback ready to make his first start. While Ryan Day has declined to name a starter, he heavily implied that it will be Luke Fahey playing.
With that being the case, Ryan Day has done a lot over the last two weeks to make sure that his young quarterback is ready to go. However, there is something that might throw a wrench into his plans. The weather forecast could cause Ohio State's offense some problems.
Weather forecast not looking good for Ohio State's offense
According to The Weather Channel, the Buckeyes might have to deal with some rain in LA. In fact, the later it gets, the higher the chance of rain. As of right now, there will be a 15 percent chance of rain starting around kickoff. It hovers between there and 20 percent around 8 pm local time.
That means that the first half is going to be an issue if the rain hits. There could be up to a half-inch of rain on Saturday night. The temperature should be fine, as it will be in the upper 60s for the entire game. With this being a 7:30 pm ET kick, it's good that the game isn't a late local kick. If it were, rain would be a massive issue.
Even so, this is something that Fahey and Tavien St. Clair need to be ready for. A wet ball obviously is harder to throw, so that's something they need to prepare for in practice. Ryan Day mentioned the weather on his radio show, so it sounds like they have been doing that over the last couple of weeks.
USC is hoping for rain to much things up with the Ohio State Buckeyes
Rain would obviously favor USC, as it would keep Fahey from being able to get into a rhythm early. Although USC ran the ball for -17 yards against Wisconsin. Perhaps rain would be detrimental to them, as well. Ohio State has a defense that has played much better against the run over the last month or so.
Still, rain would be a cause for concern if Fahey doesn't deal with it right away. Fahey or St. Clair will be making his first start of his college football career on Saturday night. It won't be easy to deal with that environment, no matter what the weather will be like. Adding rain just adds more stress.
Day and his coaching staff have had more time than usual to deal with this potential problem, so this is something the entire team should be prepared for. It's up to the players to execute the game plan and make sure the offense doesn't get behind schedule, no matter what the weather is like.
Ohio State is going to lean on the run game and the defense to emerge victorious. If they can do that on the road in what could be the toughest game they have left on the schedule, things will look pretty good the rest of the way.
