The Ohio State football program still doesn't have an offensive coordinator for the 2026 college football season. With Brian Hartline now in South Florida, the Buckeyes need to find a new play-caller. So far, they haven't extended an offer to anyone. Now, it looks like they're waiting on NFL coaches.
As Ryan Day looks at his options from the NFL, the Bears had one of the most painful postseason losses in franchise history. That loss in overtime saw Chicago lose to the Los Angeles Rams, meaning the Bears are out of the running for the Super Bowl. That's good news for the Buckeyes.
Why is it good news? It's good news for Ohio State football fans to find out whether or not Day truly sees J.T. Barrett as a candidate for this vacant OC job. Now that Chicago's season is over, the Ohio State Buckeyes will be able to interview him if they want to.
The Ohio State football team could end up interviewing J.T. Barrett for their OC job
Barrett is currently the quarterbacks coach for the Bears. He helped Caleb Williams have the best season of his young career. Barrett has spent the last couple of seasons coaching under Ben Johnson, who is considered to be one of the brightest minds in the NFL when it comes to offense.
While Barrett has never called plays, he would certainly be a very good recruiter with the Buckeyes if he decided he wanted to coach in college. He would certainly be a popular hire with the fan base after how well he played the quarterback position during his time with Ohio State.
Fans should find out more about Barrett's potential candidacy within the next couple of days. If Day doesn't bring him in for an interview, then that means other NFL guys must be who Day has his eye on. A hire still doesn't seem imminent at this point.
