The Ohio State football program still doesn't have an offensive coordinator. A month and a half after Brian Hartline let the Buckeyes know that he was leaving, Ryan Day still doesn't have his replacement on staff. It's the biggest thing left on the agenda for the program this offseason.

Despite the amount of time that it is taking to hire someone, Day doesn't seem fazed. At this point, he is clearly looking for someone in the NFL. A former Buckeye quarterback could be one possibility. Another possibility that has been mentioned is former Giants head coach Brian Daboll.

Daboll was fired midway through this season, but he has waited out the NFL cycle to see if he could get another NFL job. It seems he prefers the NFL, especially with the fact that he is now interviewing for an offensive coordinator position with another NFL franchise.

The Ohio State football team looks unlikely to hire Brian Daboll

It was reported that Daboll is set to interview with the Eagles for their open offensive coordinator position. He already interviewed with the Titans for their vacant head coaching position, too. That should tell fans of the Ohio State Buckeyes that he wants to stay in the NFL.

There is an increasingly high chance that Day will hire from within the program to fill the offensive coordinator position. That could also mean that he would call plays while the new OC gets acquainted with coordinating an offense. That would be the worst-case scenario for the Buckeyes.

Day's play-calling against Miami was brutal. That was one of the reasons why Ohio State was not able to win the Cotton Bowl. Keeping those duties again would be a bad idea heading into the 2026 season. Unless they are able to land a young offensive mind from the NFL, that seems to be where this will be headed.
