The Ohio State Buckeyes looked like the best team in the country during Week 1. They won the game 56-3 after an explosive second half. Quite frankly, nothing they did made them look like anything less than a team that can win the national championship. The newest AP Poll reflected that.
Ohio State is still the top team in the country in the new AP Poll. That is well-deserved after what they did to the Cardinals. On the flip side, Michigan should have lost its game to Western Michigan. It's utter nonsense that a secret clock gave them the win. Now, the AP Poll is reflecting that.
Michigan falls completely out of the AP Top 25 in Week 2
TTUN won on a Hail Mary that never should have happened. The voters agreed with what they did in the poll, moving the Wolverines from 16th to out of the top 25 entirely. It was the right move, considering they should have lost to a MAC school at home in the first game of the year.
Bryce Underwood looked like a horrendous quarterback in that game. It was a continuation of what he did against the Buckeyes last season when Ohio State won 27-9. Underwood threw for just 63 yards in that game and wasn't able to lead his team to a touchdown.
Against Western Michigan, Underwood turned the ball over twice and should not have had a chance to win the game. There is a chance that he gets benched, and Kyle Whittingham was not non-committal about Underwood being the starting quarterback for them moving forward.
Ohio State would not benefit from that, as having Underwood play The Game would actually be better for Ohio State's chances of winning. The Buckeyes already showed that they can take on a Michigan team that is led by Underwood. Of course, Tommy Carr is an unknown. He could be worse than Underwood.
Ohio State looks well set up for the future, while Michigan looks like it will have problems
As Ohio State moves into Week 2, they look well set up for the rest of the season. Even if they do fall to the Longhorns, they still have a team that can win a national championship. The offense is explosive, and the defense looks like it can stop any team that they face.
On the flip side, TTUN doesn't look like they will have a shot to even make a bowl game, let alone make the College Football Playoff. Heading into the season, Whittingham had some CFP aspirations, despite the massive turnover on the team. That looks like a pipe dream at this point after what happened.
It will only get worse for TTUN heading into Week 2. They will take on Oklahoma, which has one of the best defenses in the country. It's certainly not a defense that Michigan wants to be playing with, given how badly Underwood has been playing. Their offense is broken, and they don't deserve to be one of the top 25 teams in the country.
