Where the Ohio State football team lands in the Week 9 polls

The Ohio State football team was on a bye week this past week. It was much-needed after the Buckeyes fell to Oregon in their first loss of the season. They have used the bye week to help figure out the defense that got torched by the Ducks in that Saturday night clash.

With the Ohio State Buckeyes idle this week, they were able to watch other teams struggle around them at the top of the polls. Texas got crushed by Georgia at home on Saturday night, giving them their first loss of the year. Oregon looked great and demolished Purdue to stay undefeated.

So after the loss by Texas, the Buckeyes have a chance to move up in the polls. They were ranked fourth in the country behind Texas, Oregon, and Penn State. Following the Longhorns' loss on Saturday night, the Buckeyes remain at fourth because they got jumped.

Despite not losing, they don't get the bump from Texas losing. Oregon moves up to the top spot while Georgia leaps over both Ohio State and Penn State. The Nittany Lions stay at third, and the Buckeyes are still fourth. This is setting up a #3 vs. #4 matchup in a couple of weeks.

That's when the Buckeyes travel to Happy Valley. Ohio State needs to win that game if they want to have any shot of winning the Big Ten. First, they have to take on Nebraska next week. The Buckeyes can't look past the Huskers. They did just get crushed by IU though.

This is the right spot to put the Ohio State football team right now. They clearly aren't a top-two team in the country right now. They have the opportunity to still get there if they can improve on some things here as the season goes along.
