What the 2025 Ohio State recruiting class says about Ryan Day's job status

The Ohio State football team has signed most of their 2025 recruiting class already on Early Signing Day. It says something about Ryan Day's job status moving forward.

The Ohio State football team is still reeling from their stunning 13-10 loss to TTUN. It's a terrible way to end the regular season. Still, they have to move on and put it behind them because they have a chance to still win a national championship. Recruiting is a top priority right now too.

Most of the 2025 recruiting class signed on Wednesday, which was Early Signing Day. 25 of the 26 commits that the Buckeyes have signed their letters on Wednesday. Only Jarquez Carter did not, and the Buckeyes still expect him to. They can also still flip a five-star offensive lineman.

Right now, the Ohio State Buckeyes have the fifth-best recruiting class, according to 247Sports. That's despite the fact that a lot of fans want Day fired. Twenty-five young men still believe in him enough to sign with Ohio State. That should say something about his job status moving forward.

Ryan Day might have a longer leash than Ohio State football fans want

This recruiting class might signal that Day has a longer leash than some Ohio State football fans would want. A lot of them want him gone unless they win a national championship. I count myself among those fans. Yet,it might not be trending that way.

If this many recruits have no doubts about whether Day will be around to coach them, then maybe he will be around next season regardless of what happens in the CFP. I feel like more recruits would have flipped if his job status was truly in flux. Instead, only one recruit flipped.

Of course, there is always a possibility that these recruits committed to the program instead of the coach. NIL deals also could have helped them make the decision to come to Ohio State. Frankly, it would be disappointing if Ross Bjork kept Day just to keep a recruiting class together.

Ultimately, Day's job status will be determined by what he does in the Playoff. Winning a national championship is the only way for him to guarantee he keeps his job.
