After taking down TTUN for the first time since 2019, the Ohio State football team got to play in the Big Ten Championship. It was their first trip to Indy since 2020, when they beat Northwestern en route to playing for a national championship. This time, they faced the Indiana Hoosiers.
Obviously, the Ohio State Buckeyes ended up losing that game 13-10. It was a disappointing loss, and the Buckeyes would go on to lose their next game against Miami, as well. It was a horrible way to end a season that started so promising, starting the year 12-0.
Caleb Downs and Carnell Tate are still salty about how the Big Ten Championship ended. While Indiana would go on to win the national championship and finish the season 16-0, both Buckeyes believe they would easily win in a rematch if they played today.
Two Ohio State football players throw shade at Indiana
While speaking on Downs' podcast Downs 2 Business, both Tate and Downs believe they would thrash the Hoosiers in a rematch. When Josh Downs asked them if they thought they would beat Indiana in a rematch, both of them replied with an immediate, "yes".
Had Jayden Fielding been able to make a 28-yard field goal, the Buckeyes certainly would have had a shot. Winning that game would have given them the number-one overall seed and an easier path in the College Football Playoff. It's tough to claim they would have beaten IU, though.
IU was the best team in college football this season. They did something no team since the 1890s has done, and that's finish the year 16-0. They crushed everyone in the CFP until the National Championship Game, which they were still able to win.
Ultimately, Ohio State had every opportunity to beat the Hoosiers in that game. They just couldn't protect Julian Sayin enough on the offensive side of the ball, and that kept them from scoring enough points in this game. That's something they are looking to fix heading into next season, especially for the rematch.
Downs and Tate might have gotten this one wrong.
