The Ohio State football program hasn't had anyone win the Heisman Trophy since Troy Smith brought it home back in 2006. He was clearly the best player on the best regular season team in the country, and he won the vote by what was the largest margin of victory at the time.

Since then, the Buckeyes have had multiple Heisman Finalists, but no one has brought it home. Since Smith took home the trophy in 2006, the Ohio State Buckeyes have won two national championships, winning in both 2014 and 2024. Neither of those seasons featured an Ohio State Heisman Finalist.

There are two Buckeyes who have a chance to break that streak. One of them is receiver Jeremiah Smith, who is clearly the best player in college football heading into this season. His quarterback is the other player who has the best chance to win the trophy on the roster.

The Ohio State football team has two players who could win the Heisman Trophy this season

Julian Sayin is a former five-star recruit, and he will be able to put up some huge numbers with the receivers he has at his disposal. Smith is obviously the top target on the team, but Carnell Tate, Brandon Inniss, and Max Klare will all be able to have a ton of catches.

Those players will help Sayin put up some monster numbers, which could help him be in contention for the Heisman. Ohio State should be good enough as a team to have both Smith and Sayin as contenders for the award at the end of the season.

It's very hard for a receiver to win the award, so it is going to be much easier for Sayin to win the award because he touches the ball every play. Still, if any receiver is going to have a chance to win it this year, it will be Smith.
