The new documentary Surviving Ohio State has given a national audience a chance to find out what all of us in Columbus have known for a while: Dr. Richard Strauss was a really bad guy. His crimes were horrendous when they happened, and they are still heinous now.

Still, the documentary showed important aspects of the case that not even locals to Columbus knew, including how the university continues to fight victims tooth and nail when it comes to them filing lawsuits related to Strauss' abuse. It's quite disturbing.

For those who haven't seen the documentary yet, there is a list of things that people may have missed about this case that need to be known, even to those who live in the area. I will warn you that some of the details are the case are very disturbing that I will share.

Facts about the Ohio State Dr. Richard Strauss case that you may not know yet

One of the most disturbing facts is just how many people Strauss was found to have abused. It wasn't just athletes who were victims, but regular students were also exposed to his abuse. In fact, over 2,800 athletes and students were victims of Strauss's abuse.

While there were all kinds of abuses that Strauss committed, there were also 170 rape victims. The local media didn't report that figure, and it may not have been known to them at the time. Ohio State hasn't been the most forthcoming when it comes to helping with this situation.

Perhaps the most disturbing fact in an ocean of facts is that Ohio State is still fighting to keep victims from seeing the money that they rightly deserve. Unlike at Penn State or Michigan State, where the universities were held properly accountable, Ohio State is fighting victims in court.

$40.9 million is the settlement that Ohio State came up with for victims. That pays the average victim about $252,000, which is far less than what victims from either of the other Big Ten schools paid their victims. Their abuse victims got on average closer to $1 million.

This is one of the moments in which fans of the Ohio State Buckeyes should not be proud of the university. I highly encourage everyone to watch the documentary if they can.
