More than 30 former Ohio State football players joined a lawsuit against the university over the disgraced doctor.

Over the last decade or so, Ohio State has been embroiled in a scandal involving a former doctor. The Richard Strauss saga has been a stain on the Buckeyes. He has been accused of sexually abusing hundreds of victims over a period of nearly two decades before he retired.

Strauss died by suicide back in 2005. Yet, his victims are still looking for some justice. The saga was chronicled in a documentary on HBO Max last year that showed the true horrors of what Strauss did and how Ohio State seems to be fighting victims from joining lawsuits.

The atrocities that Strauss committed were not limited to athletes, although most of the victims were. He also preyed on students who were seeking treatment at the student health center. Now, more than 30 former Ohio State football players have come out with claims of abuse at the hands of Strauss.

More than a dozen of these former players went on to play in the NFL. Players such as Al Washington, Keith Ferguson, and Ray Ellis have joined the lawsuit. Knowing what has happened over the last five years or so since these lawsuits started to happen, Ohio State will likely fight them.

The Ohio State Buckeyes make more money from their football program than any other program in the country. There would be no reason for them to fight these former players from filing a lawsuit for the abuse that they suffered. The university failed to protect hundreds of victims, and they deserve to pay the price for it.

Everything about this situation is incredibly sad. My only hope is that Ohio State has changed its protocols so that something like this never happens again. There should never be a scenario where a predator is able to continue preying on victims for multiple decades.
