The Ohio State football program hasn't had to worry about losing a lot of players to the transfer portal this Spring. The culture that Ryan Day has built is very strong, and a lot of these players want to try to defend the national championship that they won last season.
Because of that, the Buckeyes haven't had to say goodbye to many players this Spring. In fact, Anthony Venneri, the third-string punter, was the only player that they had lost in the portal for a long time. Now, a second player has decided to enter the portal.
Running back TC Caffey was expected to get some playing time last season before he got hurt before the season started. He tore a ligament in his knee and missed the entire year. Now, he has decided to enter the transfer portal following three years with the Buckeyes.
The Ohio State Buckeyes lose running back TC Caffey to the transfer portal
Caffey was one of the most respected players in the locker room and someone that everyone loved. He worked his tail off after coming into the program as a walk-on. He is someone who could have gotten playing time as a walk-on had he not had that injury a year ago.
With the Buckeyes getting more depth at the running back position this year, Caffey has decided that it's best for him to move on. It's hard to argue. He was unlikely to see the field this season, except in garbage time. He wants a chance to get more meaningful snaps.
Caffey is likely headed to a lower-level school. In order to find the playing time that he is seeking, he will likely need to head to the MAC or the Sun Belt. He doesn't have enough tape to battle for a starting job at a P4 program.
We wish Caffey nothing but the best in his future endeavors.
