Ohio State made a lot of changes in the offseason to the football program. They are currently renovating Ohio Stadium at the moment, having already installed new turf. They are also finishing up luxury boxes in the south end zone, although I'd be surprised if those get finished before Week 1.
The Buckeyes also announced that they will be debuting new uniforms. Their base uniforms have the gray sleeves back, which fans have been clamoring for. They also have new all-scarlet, all-white, and all-black uniforms. They may have dropped a hint as to when the black uniforms will be worn.
Ohio State could wear black uniforms against Northwestern
If something on the Ohio State Team Shop is to be believed, the Buckeyes will be wearing their black uniforms against Northwestern. On the Team Shop, the Buckeyes are selling a hatpin for the game against the Wildcats, and it shows Ohio State having a black helmet.
The game against the Wildcats is scheduled for November 14th. It would be surprising for Ohio State to host a night game that late in the season. It is the weekend after the Oregon game, which will be a 3:30 pm game. In the past, the Buckeyes have refused to host night games that late in the season.
Perhaps that attitude has changed after the team hosted a night playoff game against Tennesee have in 2024. That game was a rout, and the Buckeyes crushed the Volunteers. Northwestern likely won't have much of a chance when they travel to the Shoe later this Fall, either.
Of course, this is not something that is confirmed. While this pin could be a hint, no one from Ohio State has confirmed when the game will be played yet. It's something that is still in flux. Ideally, the Buckeyes would wear the black uniforms for a game actually played at night. Otherwise, what's the point?
Ohio State's other uniform debuts remain a mystery
The all-scarlet and all-white uniforms are still something that will be worn at some point this season, as well. However, there is no indication of when these uniforms will be worn. I have a couple of suggestions as to when these uniforms should be on display, though.
Wearing the all-white uniforms would be cool for them to do on the road against USC. It is the first time they will be playing in the Coliseum in almost two decades. Wearing those uniforms to signify a new era of Big Ten football would be symbolic and something great for them to do.
Having the Buckeyes wear the Scarlet Rush uniforms against the Ducks the following week would be fun to see, as well. Oregon usually has great uniform combinations in their own right, so matching that with an all-scarlet outfit would be slick. However, the Buckeyes might not want to wear alternate uniforms back-to-back weeks.
As long as none of the alternate uniforms make an appearance against TTUN in the final game of the season, any other game is fine with me.
