The Ohio State basketball program is trying to figure out a way to make the NCAA Tournament for the first time in three years. The last few years have been rough. Chris Holtmann and Jake Diebler have not been able to get the Buckeyes into the Big Dance in quite a while.

Diebler didn't do a good job of identifying talent in the transfer portal a year ago. Almost none of the players they brought in from the portal last year did anything for this team. The only one who was positive was Micah Parrish, and he could only do so much.

The Ohio State Buckeyes are in hot pursuit of one of the best recruits available in the transfer portal. There are a few guys in the portal who are still looking for new homes for the 2025-26 season. One of those is Darrion Williams, a forward from Texas Tech.

The Ohio State basketball team is on the brink of landing Darrion Williams from the transfer portal

Williams had put his name in the draft process to see what the NBA thought of him. He decided to withdraw his name and return to college. There are three schools that have a chance to land him, and the Ohio State basketball program is one of them.

According to the Field of 68, NC State and Kansas are the two other teams that are in the running for Williams' services. Ohio State is certainly in the mix, and it looks like it's a final three. While it was reported that the Buckeyes had a shot for Williams, this seems like they have a real chance.

If Ohio State can land Williams, that would be a great thing. They should instantly have a better chance to make the NCAA Tournament by adding him to the starting lineup. He can't be any worse than the power forward options that they have right now.
