The Ohio State basketball team has had to figure out some things on the fly. They came into the summer expecting to have just a two-person class for the 2025 recruiting class. Then, Dorian Jones revealed he was no longer going to enroll at Ohio State.
Jake Diebler found himself in a pickle. He had to figure out how to save the class, so he went ahead and grabbed Myles Herro to help with the class. Surprisingly, Diebler was not done adding to the class. He went ahead and grabbed an international star to add to the roster.
Diebler was able to get Mathieu Grujicic, a player from Germany. Grujicic played with FC Barcelona on their second team and the U19 team. He is a very talented individual who should bring something different to the roster for the Ohio State Buckeyes this season.
Jake Diebler brings an international star to play for the Ohio State basketball team
Grujicic is 6'7 and is a combination guard/wing. He's good enough to play both positions, and his versatility is something that attracted Diebler to him. Grujicic is someone who can really score the ball and can shoot it well from beyond the arc, as well.
This is the exact kind of player that Diebler would love to bring in on a more regular basis. He is exploring something that neither Chris Holtmann nor Thad Matta did much of. He decided to go and recruit some international players. That's creative, and that's something he deserves credit for.
Diebler should pursue this avenue in recruiting a little bit more in the next few years. There are more international players who are looking to play college basketball, especially now that players are getting NIL money. That's something that Diebler can use to help entice some guys to come over.
