The NCAA must fix the transfer portal windows

The transfer portal windows for both football and basketball occur while the season is still going on. The NCAA needs to fix that.

The transfer portal has allowed players more freedom than they have ever had before. Players can transfer as many times as they want without having to sit out a year for all sports. It's mostly utilized in football and basketball, and plenty of Ohio State football and Ohio State basketball players have used it.

Most recently, the Buckeyes lost guard Evan Mahaffey to the transfer portal. That's not so bad for them because their season is over. They don't have to worry about playing any more games. However, there are still 16 teams in the country who are playing in the NCAA Tournament.

Those teams are put in an awkward spot if their players want to leave, they have to declare for the portal before the season is over. The same goes for players playing in the NIT. The same thing happened in college football. It's clear that the NCAA has to do something about this.

The NCAA has to change the transfer portal windows for football and basketball

Several Ohio State Buckeyes had to declare their intention to enter the transfer portal during their run to a national championship last season. Some of them left the team in the middle of the CFP run, while others stayed the whole time. Ohio State was behind the eight-ball in getting transfers, as well.

The NCAA has to do something about these transfer portal windows. They have to figure out a way to make it so the portal comes after the season is over in both college football and college basketball. It's something that should be a simple fix, which is not something the NCAA likes to do.

While Ohio State is fine with the college basketball transfer portal this season, if they achieve their goals in the future they won't be. They already had a disadvantage when it comes to football. It's time for a change.
