The group of Ohio State football players fans need to stop worrying about

Some fans seem to think this group of Buckeyes are going to be an issue this season.

Every season, fans worry about attrition regarding their favorite football teams. The Ohio State football program is no different. Some fans are worried about certain position groups not being as strong as they were a year ago. Last year, the Ohio State Buckeyes won their first 12 games for a reason.

Then, the Buckeyes ended up losing four first-round picks from that team in April. Defensively, the Buckeyes still feel great about the defense. They led the country in almost every possible category last season on that side of the ball. Yet, some fans are worried about the secondary.

Of all of the talent that Ohio State lost from the roster, the secondary is where they lost the fewest number of players. Losing Caleb Downs is certainly a blow, as he was probably the best defensive player the Buckeyes had. Yet, fans are freaking out for no reason about the secondary.

Ohio State football fans don't need to worry about the secondary

Even with Downs and Davison Igbinosun gone, the Buckeyes still feel great about what they have on the backend of the field. Jermaine Mathews Jr. returns to be the top corner on the roster. Devin Sanchez has a real shot to be the other guy on the outside at the corner spot.

The Transfer Portal brought in some really good players in the secondary, too. Terry Moore, Earl Little Jr., and Dominick Kirks all come in from the portal. All three guys are expected to see a significant number of snaps. The secondary is going to be just fine.

If there is an area that fans of the Buckeyes should worry about, it should be the offensive line. That was the unit that cost Ohio State a shot to win a national championship last year. Even though they return four starters from that unit, it remains to be seen how good those starters are.

The secondary should be the strength of the Ohio State defense

Despite the relative lack of proven strength in the secondary at Ohio State, fans shouldn't worry. In fact, the secondary should be the strength of the defense. A lot of the guys have experience elsewhere, but it's not like that experience is at the FCS level.

Tim Walton and Matt Guerrieri have done a pretty good job of coaching in the secondary. Of course, fans expect nothing other than perfection from this team at all moments. Anything less than perfection from the secondary will make fans angry with what they see on the field.

We will learn a lot about the secondary early on in the season. Ohio State travels to Austin for Week 2, so Cam Coleman will be a player trying to carve up Ohio State's secondary all game long. Being able to shut him down, along with Arch Manning at large, would certainly make fans pleased with what they are seeing.

Early in the Fall is when fans will learn who will be starting in the secondary and how good the unit will be.
