The CFP Committee absolutely screwed Ohio State in the final CFP ranking

The Ohio State football team got absolutely hosed by the CFP Committee in the final rankings because they ignored one huge data point.

The Ohio State football team is ranked as the eighth seed in the first 12-team College Football Playoff. Technically, their final ranking was sixth, which was the exact same spot they were in a week ago. Ohio State's loss to Michigan prevented them from being able to play for a Big Ten title.

Despite the loss, the Committee clearly made a horrendous decision regarding their ranking and another team's ranking. The top four seeds make sense. Oregon, Georiga, Boise State, and Arizona State were the correct calls for the first-round byes and the top four seeds.

After that, the CFP rankings are a complete mess. They put Texas as the five-seed, Penn State as the six-seed, Notre Dame as the seven-seed, and Ohio State as the eight-seed. The Committee is just ignoring one giant data point that should be more relevant than it was.

The Ohio State football team should have been ranked higher than Penn State in final CFP rankings

Ohio State won at Penn State earlier in the year. They won 20-13 and have two top-ten wins. Penn State, in contrast, doesn't have a single win in the top 12 and has the same number of losses as the Buckeyes. Why on earth would they be ranked higher than Ohio State?

That tells me that the CFP Committee doesn't care about head-to-head. They should. If they don't care about the actual results on the field, why even play the game? Ohio State should clearly get a better seed and have an easier path to win a national championship.

Penn State has a much easier path to the national championship now. Because they are the six-seed, they have to face SMU in the first round, a much easier matchup than Tennessee. It was also ridiculous that they jumped Notre Dame in the final rankings after losing a game. That makes no sense at all.

The Ohio State football team got the short end of the stick. We'll see if they are going to be able to overcome it and win it all.
