The case to keep Ryan Day as head coach of the Ohio State football program

While I have been on record as wanting Ryan Day gone after this season, there is a case to keep him as the coach of the Ohio State football team regardless of what happens on Saturday.

The Ohio State football team is taking on a good Tennessee team on Saturday afternoon. It could be a game that decides whether or not Ryan Day returns as head coach of the Buckeyes next season. If Ohio State loses, all bets are off. A lot of fans, including me, want him gone.

That doesn't mean that there aren't people who want to keep him regardless of what happens in the College Football Playoff. He does have some good things that he's done with the program that could warrant keeping him, and his supporters point to those numbers.

Even though I want him gone, I think it's only fair to present the case to keep him. This is a case to keep him no matter the result of the game against Tennessee on Saturday night. This could be what Ross Bjork cites if he decides to keep him in case of a loss to the Vols.

The case to keep Ryan Day as the head coach of the Ohio State football program

First off, Day's record is incredibly impressive leading the Ohio State Buckeyes. His record as head coach is 66-10. That's an 86.8% winning percentage. Only Urban Meyer's 90.2% winning percentage is better. He also has only lost to one Big Ten team not named Michigan. That loss was to Oregon this season.

Day also has two Big Ten Championships to his credit. He's coached in a National Championship Game too. He has made four College Football Playoffs now. All of this winning points to the fact that Day has a legitimate case to be brought back as the coach next season.

Of course, I think a better argument could be made against bringing him back. That's the argument I prefer to make. Still, this is the argument that his supporters have been using over the last few weeks.
