Ohio State has the best wide receiver duo in college football, and it’s not even close. Jeremiah Smith and Carnell Tate will both be first-round draft picks when they leave Ohio State for the NFL. In the meantime, they’re leaving their mark on Ohio State, their record books, and college football.

Smith eclipsed the 2,000 career receiving yards today, and they both had a fantastic game in Ohio State’s win over Penn State. Tate had five catches for 124 yards and a touchdown, while Smith had six catches for 123 yards and two touchdowns. Julian Sayin is the most accurate quarterback in college football, who has been helpful to Tate and Smith, and there’s no doubt they’ve benefited him as well.

Something Ohio State has done well on both sides of the ball this season is to strike you with someone else if you decide to try to key on one star. Tate has had four 100-yard games this season, and Smith has had three 100-yard games, but they’ve only both had 100-yard games twice. It’s great for Ohio State fans to see them have one to start the crucial month of November.

This season, Tate has 39 catches for 711 yards and seven touchdowns. Smith has 55 catches for 725 yards and 10 total touchdowns. They are on pace for 63 catches, 1,155 yards, and 11 touchdowns for Tate, and 89 catches for 1,173 yards and 16 total touchdowns for Smith. And that’s just for the 13 games (12 regular-season games and a bowl) the Buckeyes are promised, not a potential Big Ten Championship and College Football Playoff run.

I’m not sure Tate or Smith will win the Heisman, but they may help Julian Sayin be a finalist in New York. More importantly, to both them, their team, and their fans, they may get Ohio State a second straight national championship for the first time in program history.
