Texas player walks back smack talk towards Ohio State QB

He tried very hard to claim his social media activity wasn't meant to talk smack.

The Ohio State football team is gearing up to take on the number-one team in the country on Saturday. Texas comes into the Shoe looking for revenge for how the Cotton Bowl ended, which saw the Ohio State Buckeyes win 28-14 and advance to the national championship.

As the Buckeyes look to defend their national championship, they replace 15 starters from their title-winning team. The most important starter they replace is Will Howard, as they will need a new quarterback this season. They have chosen Julian Sayin to be their man.

Texas has already started talking smack about Sayin, as Colin Simmons posted him on his Instagram story in what seemed to be a way to talk some smack. Now, as the game is less than a week away, Simmons is doing the best he can to walk that back.

While speaking to the media, Simmons tried to walk back the fact that he seemed to call out Sayin just a couple of weeks before taking on the Shoe. Here's what he had to say about that post on Instagram.

"Honestly, I was just excited that they chose a quarterback. There's really nothing major behind it, I would say. There's no target for him or nothing like that. I'm just glad that they have a quarterback that I'm ready to sack."

Simmons said it best in the last bit at the end. He wants to sack the quarterback and hit him as much as possible. The Buckeyes are certainly going to make sure that they take care of Simmons so that he can't do that, especially after he put that target on Sayin's back with this post.

This does not change that Simmons gave the Buckeyes some bulletin board material before the biggest season-opening game in program history. Simmons probably realized that the story caught on, and now he's trying to do some damage control before things get out of hand.

Unfortunately for him, the damage has been done. He was one of the players who lost to Ohio State in the Cotton Bowl, so the Buckeyes already have a game plan on how to handle him. The offensive line is going to be ready, as four guys up front have played a lot of football in the last couple of years. Keeping Sayin upright is going to be key.
