Things are starting to heat up on the recruiting trail for the Ohio State football program. They were able to land a really good recruit just a few days ago. They also have several visits scheduled for the end of the month, which should help them land some recruits, as well.

If there is a weak point in the 2027 recruiting class so far, it's on the defensive side of the ball. Specifically, in the secondary. The Buckeyes have just 12 commitments in the 2027 class so far. Only one of those commitments is in the secondary right now.

Ohio State has just one safety in the class and no cornerbacks. Now, they are trying to change that. Recently, a good corner de-committed from Indiana, and they can pursue him. On Tuesday, a strong corner recruit locked in the Ohio State Buckeyes in his list of final schools.

The Ohio State football team listed as a finalist for four-star cornerback recruit

Four-star cornerback recruit Gabriel Osborne Jr. has narrowed his list to five schools. In addition to the Buckeyes, he also has Alabama, Oklahoma, Miami, and TTUN. He is from Oklahoma, so that will likely be Ohio State's biggest competition in terms of landing his pledge.

Osborne Jr. stands at 6'2 and 180 pounds, so he has really good size. With that size, he is able to help in the run game as well as the passing game. His size allows him to stay with red zone threats, which is something Tim Walton and Ohio State really covet. He's a borderline five-star recruit because of that.

Osborne Jr. is listed as the sixth-best cornerback recruit in the country. He's someone who would fit well with what Matt Patricia wants to do on the defensive end of the field. His versatility is what makes him such an intriguing prospect. He was just on campus last month for a visit, as well.

The Ohio State football team has plenty of time to add to its recruiting class

Getting Osborne Jr. ahead of Michigan would be nice. It would also be nice to get him ahead of the SEC teams, as well. Of course, he is not the only recruit that is on Ohio State's radar. They have several other top-shelf guys they are trying to sign in December.

With Ohio State ready to bring some guys in for an official visit, they will start adding up numbers in their class quickly. While they only have a dozen recruits at the moment, that number could be up to 20 by the time the end of June rolls around. The Fall still will see Ohio State host some recruits, as well.

Ryan Day has made it clear that high school recruiting is going to be the primary way that the Buckeyes build their roster. He and his staff are taking steps to make sure that will be the case again for the 2027 recruiting class. It's unclear when Osborne Jr. will make his final decision, though.
