Ohio State is about to pounce on a recruit who just de-committed from a Big Ten foe

The Ohio State football team has taken a patient approach to building its 2027 recruiting class. They just received a commitment a couple of days ago, but they still don't have many recruits for the class. As of now, they have just a dozen recruits pledged to play for them next year.

As it stands now, most of those recruits have been on the offensive side of the ball for the Buckeyes. They haven't been able to land a ton of defensive recruits, although it's still very early in the recruiting cycle. The Buckeyes are going to do most of their work during the summer.

They are also on the hunt for high school players who might decide to flip their recruitment. The Ohio State Buckeyes don't typically flip a lot of recruits, but they are very strategic with the ones they do. They might be able to do that now with one recruit who just de-committed from the defending national champs.

Ohio State football team could go after recruit who de-committed from Indiana

Four-star cornerback recruit Monsanna Torbert has decided to take his commitment away from the Hoosiers. Indiana has started to become a bigger threat on the recruiting trail after winning it all a year ago. That includes taking recruits away from the Buckeyes.

Torbert received an offer from Ohio State back in April. He had been committed to IU since January, but he has also been getting a lot more attention. Since his commitment to Indiana, he has received offers from Ohio State, Michigan, Notre Dame, and Alabama.

As of now, Torbert is listed as the 16th-best cornerback in the country. Adding him to the 2027 recruiting class should be something Ohio State tries to do. The secondary is the weakest part of the Buckeyes' class thus far, which needs to change soon.

Ohio State needs to prioritize the secondary in their recruiting class

Right now, the Buckeyes have just one player in the secondary committed for 2027. It's a safety, so they don't have a single cornerback pledged in this class yet. Bringing in a player with the talent of Torbert would be a great addition for Ohio State's secondary.

It's pretty clear that the Buckeyes have a hole in their secondary when it comes to the 2027 class right now. They have some guys they have targeted, but adding Torbert would be a great bonus for them. Tim Walton has done a pretty good job recruiting at the cornerback spot over the last couple of years.

This past year, he was able to bring in five-star cornerback Jay Timmons, whom they flipped. It's the second year in a row that he has brought in a five-star corner, as he also had Devin Sanchez in the 2025 recruiting class. Now, Sanchez is fighting for a starting spot on the outside.

Torbert would be the perfect nickel cornerback for Matt Patricia's system. Ohio State should do its best to reach back out to Torbert and rekindle a relationship that could be fruitful for both parties.
