The Ohio State Buckeyes have taken down Texas in each of the last two seasons. In 2024, the Buckeyes beat them to advance to the national championship game, which they won. Last season, it was a victory in the Shoe to start off the season. In both cases, Texas came up losers.
Ryan Day seems to have Steve Sarkisian's number, and he seems to know it. Ahead of a Week 2 matchup, Sark is trying to build in excuses for why his team will lose. He continues to trot out excuses for why his team has lost in the last two years, too.
Steve Sarkisian gives sad excuse for why Texas lost to Ohio State in 2024 CFP
While appearing on a podcast with Josh Chambers, Sarkisian complained that his team was too tired in order to beat Ohio State, and that's why they lost the game.
“I felt like the year we played Ohio State in the Cotton Bowl, we were tired, and not necessarily physically tired. We were mentally fatigued as well. That’s a long season. We had so many big games. So I think managing it this time around, how we manage their energy level, is as important as how we manage their legs and the physicality.”
That's a ridiculous excuse for many reasons. There was perhaps no more mentally fatigued team in the country than the Buckeyes heading into the College Football Playoff after the loss to TTUN. Fans, including myself, were calling for Ryan Day to be fired on the spot.
Ohio State had to play four games in the College Football Playoff, which was grueling in its own right. Has Sark considered the fact that perhaps the Buckeyes were just the better team? They won that game by 14 points, so it's not like the game was close. Of course, the Jack Sawyer touchdown flipped things in a hurry.
Ohio State can beat Texas again and make the SEC sad
As Sarkisian continues to be mad about losses in the past, he is still building excuses for losses that might happen in the future. The Buckeyes are the top-rated team in the country for a reason. There is a very good chance that they end up havin the best offense in college football.
Jeremiah Smith has been shut down in each of the last two matchups with the Longhorns, which has been an issue. In that CFP matchup, he had just one catch. However, Smith is very confident that Arthur Smith's system is going to fit him much better this season.
Smith should be getting the ball on the run more, utilizing his amazing ability to get yards after the catch. All of the receivers should be doing that, and that's something Texas struggled with a year ago. The Longhorns were 97th in pass defense last season, and they just dismissed a starting linebacker.
Ohio State might be giving Sark another excuse to sell once he loses to the Buckeyes again. This time, the fans might not buy it.
