In each of the past two seasons, the Ohio State Buckeyes have owned Texas. The 2024 beatdown gave the Longhorns more of a scar because it propelled Ohio State to a national championship. The Buckeyes beat them last year in the Shoe, as well. This year, Ohio State will travel to Austin to face them.
Steve Sarkisian cried last year about his team not making the College Football Playoff because they played a big game against Ohio State. He ignored the fact that the Longhorns also lost to a bad Florida team. Now, he is still whining about possibly missing the CFP this year if he loses to the Buckeyes again.
Steve Sarkisian seems convinced Texas will lose to Ohio State again
While speaking in an interview with Colin Cowherd on The Herd, Sarkisian still seems concerned about losing to Ohio State in Week 2.
"The 2nd half of the season he just kinda said: Screw it, I'm gonna go play... The team really started to feed off of that."@colincowherd & @TexasFootball head coach @CoachSark talk Arch Manning & the Longhorns week 2 matchup with Ohio State pic.twitter.com/FHnlC4pIxG

"Hopefully, to your point, they can figure out this College Football Playoff sizing of the number, how many teams, but also rewarding us, not just us, but all of the teams that play in these games."
That sounds like someone who is afraid that he is going to lose to the Buckeyes at home in Week 2. If he actually thought his team could beat the Buckeyes, he would see this as more of an opportunity to stamp his resume with a big win. Instead, he seems worried about the consequences if he loses.
To be fair to Sarkisian, Texas has tried to schedule marquee non-conference games. Texas has played Alabama, before the move to the SEC, Michigan, and Ohio State. They are one of the few SEC teams not afraid to play other good teams in the non-conference slate.
If Sark had won last season, he'd be singing a different tune. Instead, he has to hope Arch Manning doesn't have a similar performance to last year. The Buckeyes held the Longhorns to just seven points last year in the Shoe in their victory over Texas.
Ohio State doesn't run from big games or make excuses
Ryan Day has said many times that he wants to continue to play big games in the non-conference slate. He doesn't make excuses for his teams not to play those games. The Buckeyes have future series with Alabama and Georgia scheduled after his series with Texas is finished.
Day knows that winning these games gives them a great opportunity with recruits as well as their CFP resume. This year, the Buckeyes play the eighth-toughest schedule in the country. A large part of that is the fact that they have to travel to Austin. Yet, he is focused on having his team ready for that challenge.
If those two future series with SEC schools do get canceled, it won't be because of Day. The Ohio State Buckeyes have made it clear they want to play the best programs in the country. Georgia or Alabama might cancel because they are afraid to play a good team now that they have to play nine conference games.
