The Ohio State football team looked like they were going to need a new head coach following a loss to TTUN. It was Ryan Day's fourth straight loss to them, and they were coming into the College Football Playoff with as little momentum as possible.
Then, Day went on an insane run. The Ohio State Buckeyes have now won three CFP games and will play for a national championship. There is no doubt that Day will be back next season. If he beats Notre Dame, he will be coaching at Ohio State for as long as he wants.
Prior to this, Mike Vrabel was a coach that a lot of fans wanted to hire if Day was fired. He didn't require a buy-out, and he's a former player. Both of those things combined made him a perfect fit. Now, the Buckeyes couldn't hire him even if they wanted to.
Former Ohio State football player Mike Vrabel takes Patriots coaching job
Mike Vrabel has decided to take the head coaching job with the New England Patriots. He is a former Patriots player, so this makes a lot of sense. He was one of the hottest coaching candidates available this hiring cycle. Vrabel interviewed for several open NFL jobs.
This officially ends any hope that the Ohio State Buckeyes will have Vrabel coaching them any time soon. Again, Day ended that chance by winning these three playoff games in dominating fashion. If things go well, Day will be the coach of the Buckeyes for years to come.
Vrabel will have a lot of decisions to make with his new team. He will have a top-five pick, and he'll need to figure out a way to maximize how good Drake Maye can be in New England. We wish him nothing but the best now that he's back in the NFL as a head coach.
