For most of college football, the transfer portal continues to dominate the news cycle. New players are entering the portal every day. Kids are committing to new schools every day as well. The Ohio State football program got three commitments from the portal on Monday alone.
While the Buckeyes are preparing for the Rose Bowl against Oregon, they have a few guys who have decided to already leave the program. One of those players is quarterback Air Noland. Noland is a freshman who decided to leave the program without seeing the field.
Noland was expected to battle for the starting quarterback job next season, along with Julian Sayin and Tavien St. Clair. He decided to not stay and battle it out. Instead, he entered the transfer portal. It looks like he has already found a new home to play next year as well.
Former Ohio State football player Air Noland commits to South Carolina
Following a visit, Noland has decided to commit to South Carolina. Noland is from the Southeast, so it makes sense for him to play a little closer to home. It is a little surprising to see him commit to the Gamecocks, though. South Carolina started a freshman this season.
LaNorris Sellers isn't going anywhere, so this strikes me as odd. Why go from one program where you could possibly compete for the starting job to another where you won't? Perhaps Noland is just homesick. He did seem to miss his home state of Georgia this past season.
While this seems like an odd choice, he is a player with a good skill set. He played well in the Spring Game for the Ohio State Buckeyes, so he can certainly play. Hopefully, South Carolina is the right place for him, and he can find more happiness than he did in Columbus.
