The Ohio State football program is one of the most stable programs in the country. They simply don't have down years. When they have a bad year, they lose two or three games at the most. The Buckeyes rarely have a losing record. The last time that happened was in 2011 during the Luke Fickell season.

Ohio State's remarkable stability has been something fans have loved over the last decade. Even since taking over as head coach, Ryan Day has maintained that level of play. The most games he has lost in a season are two, and that includes the postseason.

Paul Finebaum is a noted SEC homer, and he normally hates to give any credit to the Ohio State Buckeyes. Yet, even he knows how good this roster is. He even gave a bold prediction for how good the Ohio State football team will be this season when it's all said and done.

Paul Finebacum believes Ohio State can win a national championship this season

While appearing on ESPN 1000 in Cleveland, Finebaum was asked if it was more likely that Ohio State missed the College Football Playoff or win the national championship. He gave the correct answer.

"I would say it's more likely for them to win the national championship than miss the playoffs. I think last year, they got bored. After beating Texas, they just kind of slept-walked through the season. There's just so much talent on the team."

It would be truly shocking to see the Buckeyes miss out on the CFP after what they did last year. Finishing the regular season 12-0 was a great feat for this team, even if they did lose the last two games of the year. For them to miss the Playoff altogether would mean something catastrophic has happened.

The Ohio State football team has too much talent to lose three or more games

The only way that the Buckeyes miss the Playoff is if they lose three or more games. While Ohio State does have a very tough schedule, that just isn't going to happen. The Buckeyes have to play Indiana, Texas, and USC on the road. At most, they lose one of those games.

Ohio State will have revenge on its mind while taking on the Hoosiers after what happened in the Big Ten Championship. Texas is a good team, but the Buckeyes have beaten them two years in a row. Quite frankly, it seems like Day might own Steve Sarkisian.

The Buckeyes are still a really talented team, even though they lost four first-round picks from last year's team. Offensively, Ohio State should be better. It will be Julian Sayin's second year as a starter, and Jeremiah Smith is at his peak. Those two factors alone should get them in the CFP.

Finebaum knows that Ohio State is the most talented team in the Big Ten. They were last year, too. Yet, they were outcoached and outplayed against Indiana. Winning the biggest games on the biggest stage will be something they need to prove they can do again this year.
