It is a very big day for Ohio State fans as they get the chance to watch some of the biggest names from the football team have their NFL dreams come true. The NFL Draft is officially here, and finally, all the debates and talk about who will go where will be answered and settled.
It makes sense that Ohio State head coach Ryan Day would be in attendance, especially on the first day of the draft, as four Buckeyes are expected to be drafted in the first round. One of those players will be defensive back Caleb Downs, who didn't actually spend his entire college career with the Buckeyes.
Downs spent some time with Nick Saban at Alabama before the legendary coach retired, and Day made sure to troll Saban just a bit on ESPN College GameDay at the NFL Draft.
"I think the first thing that surprised me, when Caleb came to Ohio State, was that he was a mess," Day said jokingly right next to Saban. "I don’t know what they were doing at Alabama."
Ryan Day’s got jokes.

With Nick Saban seated to his left, here’s Day on what Caleb Downs meant to Ohio State: “I think the first thing that surprised me, when Caleb came to Ohio State was that he was a mess. I don’t know what they were doing at Alabama.”pic.twitter.com/Khv7NykklR
Day was sitting right next to Saban when he made these trolling comments, but of course, everyone around him was laughing, including the legendary Alabama coach. In all honesty, Day knows that Downs built a great foundation under Saban, and he was able to continue to develop him and get him ready for this moment, the moment he will become an NFL player.
Night one of the NFL Draft is set to be an Ohio State show
Downs is not the only Buckeye expected to be taken early one night of the 2026 NFL Draft. He should be joined by fellow defenders Arvell Reese and Sonny Styles, as well as talented receiver Carnell Tate.
Last NFL Draft was a big one for Ohio State, but the Buckeyes could see two, potentially even three players go in the top 15 picks. This is a huge testament to the way Day develops his players and gets them ready for the next level.
